Smoking Matters Orkney is a free, confidential and specialist support service provided by NHS Orkney to help support people who want to stop smoking.
Smoking Matters Orkney is a support service run by experienced staff to help people who are thinking about stopping smoking. The service is confidential and non-judgemental. We treat everyone as an individual and work closely with you to find the right support to help you stop smoking.
We offer one to one sessions with an advisor and while most clients need about 6 weeks of support in the lead up to their quit date and thereafter, sessions are flexible.
We can provide telephone support and text support if attending sessions is difficult for you. Additionally if you have mobility, transport or childcare constraints an advisor can arrange a home visit for you. Sessions are currently held in various venues in Kirkwall and from the Stromness surgery on a Wednesday.
Our trained advisors will also discuss Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) with you. This includes patches, gums, lozenges and sprays to help you deal with any cravings you experience as you give up smoking. If you use NRT and have the support of a trained advisor you are four times more likely to successfully stop smoking. Stopping smoking is the best thing you can ever do for your health but why do it alone? We are here to help.
